You can't assume that the day you press publish on a piece of content that the cash register is going to start ringing. Is it possible to generate revenue immediately after pressing publish on a piece of content? No doubt about it. I've published a ton of things that have had immediate return but the key is to NOT lose patience or a commitment to process solely because a piece of content didn't drive return immediately.
I'm a big believer that content is one of the best investments you can make today.
Why?
Because if you create a piece of content that ranks and consistently converts... You have the ability to generate passive income (I know that concept is cringe to many) that is actually quite passive and can compound into millions over the course of years.
Think about it like this...
Imagine you started a blog in 2004 all about "Hoodies" -- You owned the domain Hoodies.com and every single week you pressed publish on content that talked about different types of hoodies, the best material, the best hood material, etc... You also happen to have a great set up where either (1) you had affiliate links driving to Hoodie products or (2) you just so happened to be a designer who offered custom hoodie designs.
You'd probably be rich right now.
Why?
Look at the search volume for Hoodies:
Sure the winter months give it a bit of volatility that would make bitcoin seem stable but the growth of this chart is moving 100% in the right direction. It's not just Hoodies either.
The same thing happens when you look for "Social Media" or "Website Design". People have continued to go to Google looking for these things because even amidst a global recession or pandemic - people are looking for information that will help them improve, learn and grow.
This is your opportunity.
Not just from a search engine optimization lens though.
The human desire for content that helps us improve ourselves runs deep. There's a saying in business that if you can help people get paid, respected or find love - you'll never be out of work. These are three things that people will always desire and that if you play your cards right and add value in these categories - will pay you significant dividends over the years.
One of the most important mindsets to start embracing as a marketer is the idea that every single piece of content you create is an asset. It's not just a blog post. It's not just a Twitter thread. It's not just a podcast episode. It's not just a YouTube video. The content you create today should have the ability to pay you tomorrow. This is what makes it an asset.
Let's think about this a bit...
What's your hourly rate? Ok. That can be a trick question...
How much do you earn a year? Divide that by 2,000.
Now how long does it take you to write a blog post?
Let's say it takes 20 hours to create something REALLY good. That's $500 worth of content.
So you better hope that over the course of your life...
That blog post brings you back more than $500 worth of value. In fact, I'd argue that you should hope that blog post generates 5x the amount of value it took for you to create it.
Let me tell you a story...
In 2016, I wrote a blog post titled "5 Great Insights to Keep in Mind When Targeting Generation Y" -- I shared it on my Facebook page, Twitter and LinkedIn. Within 2 weeks of pressing publish on that post, I got an email from a marketing firm that worked with a global beverage company (who's name I won't share because I don't know if I signed an NDA) requesting that they fly me from my parents basement (they didn't know this) to Orlando -- all expenses paid, $5k for the day and a $500 stipend for meals.
I need you to know something...
At that time I was making about $30k a year.
So this was a BIG DEAL.
It felt like a MILLION dollar hit.
You fast forward to today... And I have these kinda moments regularly. I press publish on a piece of content and within 48 hours there are 3-4 companies reaching out interested in a collaboration with my agency Foundation or hiring me to speak to their C-Suite.
It's a magical thing.
Especially when the pieces of content published in 2019, 2020 and 2021 keep resulting in leads coming knocking years after the publish date.
I've had individual blog posts generate millions for Foundation. I've had individual YouTube videos generate hundreds of thousands for Foundation. I've had comments placed inside of a Slack channel generate thousands in speaking opps.
Content can paid amazing returns.
And in this course... I'm going to show you how you can use content to help you unlock life changing wealth. The simple thing you must remember from the start is this...
Content must be viewed as an investment.
And...
The longer you're in the game... The better the game pays.
Here's a talk I gave on this very topic that might be useful:
PS: This isn't the main part of the course. This is just information that I believe will help set the Foundation for what you should be doing and how you should be thinking.
